EN | Baumer | Programming the CleverLevel switch for different medias

The level switch detects the di-electrical value of the media and can therefore easily be configured to separate two medias with different di-electrical values (e.g. masking a foam layer.). This video shows the easy programming of the sensor for detecting different medias.

LBFS frequency-sweep level switch – New reverse assembly option

Friday, 18. February 2011

The new standard version of Baumer’s LBFS level switch is made from AISI 304 or 316 stainless steel and comes with a PEEK sensor tip. In addition to this, Baumer now provides the LBFS with special G½ process connections for reverse assembly. These options broaden the field of possible applications of the LBFS.

  • AISI 304 or 316 stainless steel with PEEK sensor tip
  • Special G1/2 process connection for reverse assembly
  • Can be mounted from inside of tanks and used as float-type level switch
  • Unaffected by flow, turbulence, bubbles, foam, and suspended solids

Based on the novel frequency-sweep technology, the level switch is suitable for measuring the levels of viscous or dry substances as well as liquids with a repeatability and hysteresis of ± 1 mm and a typical response time of 0.2 seconds. As the LBFS is unaffected by flow, turbulence, bubbles, foam, and suspended solids, it is particularly suitable for level detection in processes generating those.
The new G½ connection for the LBFS allows for two types of reverse assembly. The first makes it possible to mount the level switch from the inside of a tank using the included fibre gasket and a G½ nut. Fields of application include low level and leakage detection in tanks for oil or cooling fluid used in pneumatic systems or high-speed cutting (HSC) machines.
The second reverse assembly option enables the LBFS to be mounted in a simple G½ thread inside a tube to extend the length of the sensor. A fibre gasket and an M12 plug or 5-metre cable are included with the measuring device. With the tube functioning as an adjustable extension rod, the LBFS can be adjusted to changing levels. This makes it possible to use the LBFS as a float-type level switch in applications such as automatic dosing systems as well as for phase separation in the petroleum industry, hydraulic systems, and water/wastewater treatment.

EN | Baumer | CleverLevel LBFS / LFFS – the alternative to vibrating fork level switches

With Baumer’s CleverLevel series, you can enter into a new era of level detection technology that is convenient, precise, easy and maintenance free.

The widely used vibration level switches have vibrating forks that are quite large and which protrude quite a ways into the material being measured.Since pasty materials are prone to stick to these forks, it can often cause measuring errors.

With the sensors of the CleverLevel switch, no media remnants or solids are able to accumulate on the sensors. A precise and reliable level detection is thus ensured even under difficult circumstances.

MEP5 Safety Pressure Gauge – with Stainless-Steel Connection

Baumer’s safety pressure gauge MEP5 is specially designed for use in corrosive atmospheres and fluids.

  • Designed for use in corrosive atmospheres and fluids
  • Measuring ranges from -1…0 to 0…1600 bar
  • Thermal drift ± 0,4 per cent for a variation of ±10°C
  • With protection class IP67, S3 Safety, and Lloyd’s Register Approval

The gauge has a diameter of 100 mm and can measure pressures from -1..0 to 0..1600 bar at gauge working temperatures of -20..70 °C. The MEP5 has a stainless-steel housing, sensing element, and fully welded process connection. It complies with protection class IP67. A baffle wall and a blow-out back prevent the operator from risk of injuries in case of failure of the sensing element. The MEP5 contains a special compensating diaphragm which maintains accuracy by equalising internal and external atmospheric pressures. Thanks to its robust design, the MEP5 is particularly suitable for applications in the chemical industry as well as use in heavy vehicles, energy production, and oil and gas plants such as the French TOTAL refinery. Special versions with connection sizes specified by the customer are available upon request. This prevents leakage and allows the correct positioning of the measuring instrument.
The thermal drift of the MEP5 is ± 0.4 per cent for a variation of ± 10 °C in relation to the reference temperature 20 °C. The gauge may be used on transient fluid temperatures of up to 200 °C providing that the temperature of the gauge itself does not exceed 70 °C.
The MEP5 boasts an accuracy class of 1 according to European norm EN 837-1 and is available with 22 mm square G1/2 or 1/2NPT process connections. Its window is made of safety laminated glass 4 mm thick. Optionally, the watertight gauge can be filled with a dampening fluid. The MEP5 conforms to S3 Safety as defined by European norm EN 837-1 as well as to Pressure Directive PED 97/23/CE and has a Lloyd’s Register Approval certificate.

Based on Transbar technology – Versatile Pressure Transmitter PBSN

Monday, 15. February 2010

With the PBSN product, Baumer is introducing a new general purpose pressure transmitter series. Thanks to their modularity, the devices offer a high level of flexibility to suit customers’ exact application needs. The sensor, which is based on Transbar technology with a thick film ceramic measuring cell, is also suitable for applications with aggressive media. The Baumer FlexProgrammer enables the transmitter’s easy configuration.

  • Modularly constructed
  • Thick film ceramic measuring cell
  • Measuring range from 0..1 bar up to 0..600 bar
  • Easy configuration with the FlexProgrammer 9701

Modularly constructed, the PBSN pressure transmitter series offers a flexible design to suit different customer needs, ensuring that their pressure measurement applications are solved with an accurate, reliable and cost-effective product. The Transbar technology-based measuring cells are suitable for gauge as well as for absolute pressure and cover a measuring range from 0..1 bar up to 0..600 bar. The standard accuracy is at 0.7%, or optionally 0.5%, of the full scale.

The thick film technology is based on a ceramic support material for the pressure measuring cell. This material is chemically neutral and compatible with most media, including very aggressive ones. These measuring cells are also characterised by excellent long-term stability and outstanding measuring performance in terms of linearity and hysteresis.

A 4..20mA output signal or voltage output signals are available and all common electrical connections and cable types are offered. PBSN transmitters are delivered programmed according to exact customer requirements, or they can easily be re-configured using the Baumer FlexProgrammer 9701 hand-held communicator tool. The PBSN can be delivered with different process connections made of stainless steel. Moreover, a wide range of gasket ring types (NBR, EPDM, FKM, FFKM, CR and more) are available.

The PBSN is constructed using a fully-welded stainless steel housing with a standard IP65 rating, with IP67 available, depending on the type of electrical connection. It is abrasive and chemically resistant which makes it suitable for numerous general purpose industrial applications in the sectors of pneumatic, chemical and petrochemical, energy production, HVAC and automobile industry.
